Friday was a big day for a handful of families in Lycoming County. Seven children were adopted into their new families.
The newest member of the Beveridge family is three-year-old Kasha Beveridge. She was all smiles inside the Lycoming County courthouse in Williamsport just hours after her adoption was made official.
"It was like Christmas. I couldn't wait. Like a little kid at Christmas time, kept saying when's November 6, when's November 6. We gotta get her," said John Beverigdge of Avis.
As of now Beveridge is a dad, his wife, Kellie is a mom and Kasha is their little girl. All three began their relationship two years ago when Kasha was taken in as a foster child.
"She was little tiny. She was failure to thrive so she was 13 months old, and weighed just 13 pounds," John Beveridge recalled.]
"It's just absolutely wonderful. No feeling like it, after waiting for so many years to have a child and it's just the most wonderful day of our life," said Kellie Beveridge.
Kasha was not alone on this special day, as six other former foster children were adopted.
"It's a very happy day. Children are achieving permanency. They're getting their forever homes," said Joe Weber of Lycoming County children and Youth Services.
"There are so many kids who need this kind of love," said John Beveridge.
Then it was off to celebrate this special day with Kasha's new grandparents. The little girl was carried away in her father's arms.
"We're looking forward to first day of kindergarten, ears pierced, knowing she'll never leave us. (It's) wonderful knowing we can love her and protect her," added Kellie Beveridge.
Even though there were seven children adopted to five families, Children and Youth Services said by year's end, there will have been 20 children adopted to families across Lycoming County this year.
