Millions of travelers are expected to hit the highways this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Many are expected to take advantage of free coffee breaks at rest areas along the interstates.

Charlotte Ryan stopped by a safety break location at a rest area along Interstate 80 near White Haven Wednesday. She was traveling to New York City to visit a special relative.

"My son in law was in 9/11 and he nearly lost his life in 9/11. I'm very thankful and to see his family. They're a lovely family. He did a lot of work, my son in law," Ryan said.

The state said safety break spots are in big demand because they raise a lot of money for non-profit organizations.

At the White Haven rest area Lori Lasante was serving up all kinds of food and drink. She's raising money for the Hazleton Blind Association. "In our current economy we just recently were cut in the state monies that we get so we're just trying to supplement that and donations are down everywhere. Everybody is trying to cut back so we're here trying to raise some money," Lasante said.

The refreshments are free but donations are accepted.

Carl Miller from Ohio said the safety breaks are ideal for travelers. "They need a break like this to keep them awake on their road. Yes, it's great!" Miller said.

The safety breaks along the Interstates run throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
