Teen Accused of Making Threats
A ninth grader at Hanover Area High School is accused today of plotting to hurt other high school students.

Police said he made threats to students through instant messages and e-mails.

Hanover Township police said it could have been a very bad situation but luckily, they put an end to a threat that started Thursday.

Police said the panic started Thursday night when parents and students at Hanover Area Junior/Senior High School got word one student was threatening violence: an attack on ninth grade classmates Friday, October 16.

"Our department received communication from the mother of a teenage girl who had overseen her daughter talking on the computer via instant messenger to an individual and the mother had indicated that she had seen some threatening information," said Hanover Township Police Chief Albert Walker.

Police said they quickly figured out that same student threatened others. They moved in and found out the 14 year old lived on Ridge Street in Hanover Township.

They searched his home around 6 a.m. Friday and took computer equipment and several firearms.

The student was arrested.

"That's not going to be tolerated. Anything like that we take seriously. We don't take it as a joke. We don't say it's going to pass. We're going to get the police involved. We're going to take care of this situation," said Hanover Area Superintendent Anthony Podczasy.

Police said they are thankful nothing came of the threats and with the student now in the juvenile justice system, they are convinced there is no longer a concern here.

"Having the opportunity to take care of this before the start of school was very important to us and that's why we worked diligently to take care of this for the students and the school officials, to be quite frank, the ability to attend school in a safe manner is obviously what all of us are hoping for," added Shief Walker.

Ashley and Hanover Township police had officers at the Hanover Area Junior Senior high School Friday morning to tell students and parents everything was taken care of.

As for that student, he is being charged with making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.
