Repairs Back Up Traffic on I-81
Drivers can blame emergency bridge repairs for the morning and midday commute turning into a crawl along Interstate 81 south Wednesday in Luzerne County.

PennDOT said a big pothole opened up on a bridge.

The interstate looked more like a parking lot between the Pittston/Dupont exit (175) and Bear Creek/ Wilkes-Barre (170) during the morning commute. Cars and trucks were creeping along, trying to squeeze into one lane of traffic.

The emergency bridge repair work started Tuesday near mile marker 172 which is not far from the exit for Kidder Street in the Wilkes-Barre area.

The work along Interstate 81 southbound is expected to last until early afternoon to give the concrete on the bridge enough time to dry.
