Pioneers' Game Over
Owners said the sale of the arena team has fallen through and now it's too late to field a team for the 2010 season. That means the end of the Pioneers, despite increased season ticket sales and a strong team.
The final home game for the Pioners was the American Conference Championship game where the Pioneers beat the Green Bay Blizzard for the second time in three years to advance to the Arena Cup.
Both times the team came up short in the championship game but they proved to be one of the most stable franchises in the league.
When co-owners Cosmo and Jane DiNicola stepped away from the team, the Pioneers were in trouble.
In a statement released Monday team officials said they will continue to talk to anyone interested in buying the team. The offices will close this and all season ticket deposits will be returned in full.
