In Luzerne County two men on trial for a brutal home invasion learned their fate Friday when a jury found them guilty. They now face more than 100 years behind bars when sentenced.
Nick and Martha Caputo said they can finally have some peace after a jury found Daniel Pinkney and Kevin Fisher guilty of beating the couple from Hazleton.
It took the jury just two hours to find the men guilty of all the charges against them, including aggravated assault and attempted robbery.
Jurors decided Pinkney and Fisher brutally attacked Nick and Martha Caputo, a well-known Hazleton couple, last year inside their home on South Pine Street.
During the week-long trial, the Caputos themselves took the stand and described being attacked. Nick Caputo was beaten with brass knuckles, while his wife was hit with a handgun.
"We are so thankful to everyone and we are so thankful to the district attorney and assistants and all the police men. And we are so thankful it is over, now maybe we can have some peace instead of worrying about what's happening next," the Caputos said.
"There are some crimes that stand out. This is one of those crimes. This is a shocking crime. This is one with innocent, elderly victims and we are happy with the verdict today and we're happy the Caputos finally have the closure they deserve," said Assistant District Attorney David Pedri.
Fisher and Pinkney are scheduled to be sentenced December 23. They each face a maximum sentenced of 140 years behind bars.
