Police in Exeter said they may know what caused a house explosion that destroyed the home, damaged other homes and a nearby school and injured several people.
You can see the damage is still all around me here on penn avenue. That home is gone, and nearby buildings are seriously damaged.
"I mean, the front door they found all the way down by St. Anthony's the church. I mean the front door all the way down there. That's how bad it blew up," said Pat Lizza.
Neighbors said it still looks like a war zone along Penn Avenue in Exeter. There is just a pile of rubble left of the house that exploded Saturday, damaging a nearby school and several homes.
"I mean three or four of these houses are condemned. They can't even come back to their house," Lizza added.
It wasn't just property that was damaged. Several people were hurt, including David Lamoreux, the man who lived in the house that exploded.
Police said someone did this on purpose.
Investigators are looking into problems Lamoreux had been having with his wife.
"We're setting up a meeting with the Luzerne County district attorney's office, state police and our department to go over what we have discovered so far and what charges, if any, will be filed," said Exeter Police Chief John McNeil.
Lamreux's wife was charged Monday with beating up her husband on July 27. Police have not named her or her husband as suspects in the explosion but the investigation continues.
"From the beginning they were both very nice, but then after a while, they broke away from us all or something. I guess they have their troubles, you know," said neighbor Elizabeth Tocheny.
"It was something that should have been under control for a while, it just escalated over time," Lizza said.
David Lamoreux is hospitalized at the Lehigh Valley Hospital burn unit.
His wife is free after being charged with last month's assault on her husband.
