A man accused of killing his girlfriend seven months ago is in custody in Luzerne County. Henry Platt, 43, was arraigned early Wednesday morning in West Pittston after police picked him up in Wilkes-Barre late Tuesday night.
It was the case of the murdered mother found wrapped in a sleeping bag right outside her home. It was in March when a 31-year-old mother was found dead outside her apartment in Exeter. Investigators said she was killed by a blow to the head.
Investigators said Platt killed Kimberly Burgess at the Schooley Avenue Apartments in Exeter. It was a crime that shocked so many there. They have been waiting for seven months for an arrest
At the time of the killing, investigators said Henry Platt lived at the Schooley Avenue Apartments with his girlfriend, Kimberly Burgess.
Prosecutors said that is where Platt beat her with a bat, dragged her body into a parking lot and left it wrapped in a sleeping bag by a dumpster.
"She had asked him to leave the home many times. She had wanted him to start paying the bills. He would not do that. She said she was afraid to call the police because she was afraid any assault against her would have escalated," said Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll.
Investigators said it did escalate to the killing.
Prosecutors and police said it took until now to gather all the evidence to file a warrant for Platt's arrest.
"There was DNA testing we wanted to have performed and unfortunately it's not like where we see it on TV. It doesn't happen very quickly. It does take time," Musto Carroll explained.
Police said Kimberly Burgess' body was dumped right in the open. Neighbors said they look at this spot and remember the crime all the time. They said they've been waiting a while for charges to be filed.
Police said DNA evidence links Henry Platt to the baseball bat used in the killing.
Platt spent some time in jail since the killing on drug charges but was released. He is now locked up in Luzerne County jail without bail.
