Investigators in Luzerne County said Friday they are once again dealing with a homicide.
Investigators Thursday discovered a missing man's body in the woods in Jenkins Township. An autopsy today revealed he was killed.
It didn't take long for state police and county investigators to figure out Donnie Skiff, 34, of Plymouth had been killed. He had been missing for more than a month.
When Skiff didn't come home after a fishing trip in April, his friends and family knew something was really wrong.
"We were fishing until 11 o'clock. We all parted ways. I went home, Donnie was still there," friend Richard Sims said in April. "And then I found out Tuesday that he went missing, from his father. It's not like Donnie to just not show up."
Donnie's friends and family were right. Skiff was last seen in Shickshinny in late April.
Soon after, his burned truck was found in Plymouth Township near West Nanticoke. Then his body was discovered Thursday in Jenkins Township, about five miles south of Dupont.
"It will be some time before we release cause but as far as manner of death, it will definitely be ruled a homicide," said Luzerne County coroner John Corcorran.
Investigators won't say what led them to Skiff's body or what they think happened to him. "I do want you to know that we have been on this since the very beginning and we have been working on this day in and day out tryuing to find the body," said Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll.
What is certain, Donnie Skiff will be missed.
He was a drummer in a band called Wicked Sins. The group's website has been flooded with messages from fans and friends.
"All of us, the coroner's office, the DA's office and all the police that are involved are very, very sorry for the family, what they had to go through all these months in waiting. We only wish it could have been done sooner," Corcorran added.
Officials said investigators need to run some more tests to figure out exactly how Skiff was killed. There is no word yet how long that will take or if police have any suspects.
