Children from all over Luzerne County came together SUnday for a friendly game of football and it was all for a good cause.

Players from all over the Wyoming Valley took the field in Exeter as cheerleaders rooted them on for the 6th annual Wyoming Valley West Youth Football Conference Charity Bowl.

"It's a chance for kids to get together and play with kids from other teams, and play against kids from other teams who are all together and have fun out there. That is really what it's all about, and we're doing it for a good charity as well," said Rob Trottini, a coach for the Blue team.

About 100 players in four age groups played in the Charity Bowl, where the Red team, made up of the Wyoming Valley West teams, squared off against the Blue team, players from Dallas, the Back Mountain, Kingston Township, Exeter, Duryea and West Pittston.

"They love it. You have a quarterback from one town handing off to a running back from another town. The kids on the line are from different towns," said Mike Jordan, WVW Youth Football Conference president.

"Everyone I face is now on a team suddenly. They're all good players," said Red team player Christian Mountjoy.

All the kids were certainly playing for a good cause. Money raised from the Charity Bowl benefits 10-year-old Kerri Mulligan of Forty Fort, who suffers from a rare type of cancer.

"We're just trying to defray the costs for the family so they can spend more time with their daughter when she's in treatment," said Jordan.

"The people with cancer need help. So we have money to find them a cure or something," added Mountjoy.

Parents said win or lose, the kids were just happy to play a game they love, to help someone in need.

"The kids want to be here. They want to help any way they can so I'm glad they had this opportunity to help a kid their own age," said Lynn Mountjoy of Kingston.

Organizers hope to raise around $2,000 in this year's Charity Bowl. Anyone wishing to donate to the Charity Bowl fund for Kerri Mulligan can contact Kim Anderson at 570-881-9882.
