A single car crash left a young woman dead on Christmas Eve. The accident happened on Route 307 in Newton Township near the Lackawanna/Wyoming county border.

Investigators said Dayna Roberts, 19, of South Abington Township, was dead when they arrived on scene.

Police said Roberts lost control of the car she was driving and was not wearing a seatbelt. The woman was thrown from the vehicle that flipped several times. Roberts died from multiple injuries as a result of the crash.

Aaron Beemer lives in Newton Township, near where the crash happened. "Me and my wife and father were sitting down for Christmas Eve and we just got the girls to bed. We were talking and heard a loud thump, thump, thump, thump. We saw lights going through the window of a car rolling and we ran outside," Beemer recounted.

He said he and his wife tried to divert traffic until police officers arrived. "My wife was slowing down cars up the road. There was another car that came down the driveway and stopped. The guy hollered 'I think there's someone lying in the road.'" That's when Beemer checked for Roberts' pulse and found none.

The road was closed for three hours while state troopers investigated the deadly wreck. The cause of the accident in Lackawanna County is under investigation.
