According to court documents filed earlier this month, William Roe faces federal charges of wire fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.
Roe is currently a senior vice president and chief financial officer of Danbury Health Systems, a non-profit organization in Connecticut. According to court papers, Roe defrauded Danbury Health Systems of more than $140,000 and tried to defraud the company of another $25,000.
Roe is also accused of defrauding Catholic Health Partners in Lima, Ohio of $33,500.
Federal authorities say that Roe owns a business called Cycle Software Solutions, which is registered to a house in Archbald, Lackawanna County that Roe and his wife still own. Roe allegedly used his position at Danbury Health Systems to direct payments from the non-profit to the software business. Investigators say Roe would sign the checks then take them from Connecticut to Pennsylvania and deposit the checks in a bank here.
In late July, officials at Danbury Health Systems realized something was wrong and stopped payment on a $25,000 check.
Roe is also accused of defrauding Danbury Health Systems by altering appraisals on a home he owned in Ohio, where he worked before getting a job with Danbury Health Systems. The organization had agreed to pay Roe the difference between the appraisal price and the actual sale price of the home. Prosecutors say Danbury Health Systems ended up paying Roe more than it should have.
Federal authorities say Roe's crimes occurred between January 2008 and July 2010. During that time, Roe worked as CFO at a hospital run by Catholic Health Partners in Ohio and then as CFO of Danbury Health Systems in Connecticut.
