A Moscow man arrested once before for driving drunk and getting into a crash is locked up accused of doing it again.
Alfred Atsus, 33, is locked up in the Lackawanna County Prison.
He faces a slew of charges in connection with Wednesday morning's hit and run accident near Moscow. Court papers say Atsus was drunk when it happened.
Atsus hid his face as he left the District Magistrate's office in South Abington Township Wednesday night.
Police say he is responsible for a crash on Route 307 near Moscow. The wreck left another man Matthew Garofalo, 54, of Lake Ariel seriously hurt.
Police say Garofalo was turning onto Route 307 from Route 690 when Atsus ran a red light, hit Garofalo's car, pushed it into a utility pole and then took off.
Emergency workers cut Garofalo from his car. According to court papers, he is on life support.
Police found Atsus' abandoned pickup truck about a mile away from the scene of the crash.
Court papers also show state police tracked Atsus down at his house about an hour after the crash. Officers say they saw cuts on his body, powder on his clothes that may have been from a deployed airbag, and Atsus smelled of alcohol.
Atsus admitted to police he had 11 drinks.
Authorities in Lackawanna County say Atsus was arrested in 1999 for another accident while driving drunk. Atsus did not do any prison time for that crash.
State police say they are looking for a dark pickup truck with ladder racks.
Investigators believe the driver of this truck may have had contact with Atsus Wednesday morning.
