A little girl from Lackawanna County is fighting for her life after she fell out of her mother's moving vehicle Thursday night.

Shelby Sobolewski, 6, of Dickson City fell out of her mother's moving sport utility vehicle. She is in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

The girl's mother, Crystal Sobolewski, 33, was driving along Pancoast Street in Throop when the child fell from the vehicle, injuring her head, chest and limbs.

State police and local police responded to the scene around 8 p.m.

The Lackawanna County district attorney's office is looking into the incident.

It is unclear if the child was wearing a seat belt or if she was in the required booster seat.

Shelby is a first grader at Mid Valley Elementary Center in Throop.

The superintendent of Mid Valley Schools said everyone at the school is, "just hoping for the best right now."

It is also unclear as to how she managed to fall out of the vehicle.
