If you've got some spring cleaning to do and you happen to be looking for a new car, you might just be in luck.

Trading in your used, even junky car to get money toward a new one is pretty typical but what about just trading in your junk?

A car dealership in Moosic is giving it a shot.

Fred Straus at Ertley Kia said he was doing some spring cleaning when he came up with an idea.

"I was cleaning out my house and I started throwing away all this stuff, and all of a sudden we started thinking. What if we could give customers $2,000 for their old junk they have laying around?" Straus asked.

Sound crazy? Some of his sales staff thought it was too.

"To be honest with you, he was standing across the showroom and I asked him if he changed his medication," said salesman Dave Wert.

With sales up 300 percent compared to this time last year, Straus said it allows him to be a little more gutsy with his promotions.

"The economy is doing better and better. The consumer is spending again, the banks are more aggressive than they've been from last year," said Straus.

Employees said there's not much they won't take, in exchange for $2,000 off a new or used car.

Computers, treadmills, used sports equipment will all be put in the showroom lobby.

A college student said it might get more recent graduates in who might not have an old car to trade.

"Oh yeah probably. We always need more money, so you might as well get a car out of it," said Amber Orr of Dallas.

There have been no takers yet but people are curious.

"Ten phone calls this morning. Yesterday we probably got in the area of 15 calls," Wert added.

The general manager said they will take the stuff to be e-cycled, to the junk yard or to Goodwill if it can still be used.

The junk trade-in promotion at Ertley Kia in Moosic runs until the end of May.
