Teachers at a technical school in Scranton walked the picket line Thursday after walking off the job Wednesday because of a contract dispute.

Strikers jumped from school to school Thursday, protesting at the various districts that send students to the Lackawanna County Career Technology Center.

Union representatives and 36 teachers protested outside the Scranton School District administration building on North Washington Avenue.

"Work our way toward equality. We have a lot of issues here at the school that have to be addressed. Obviously we want to be back at the school with the students," said CTC teacher Bob Hassaj.

Teachers at CTC went on strike after being without a contract since September, 2008, according to union representatives.

Teachers are asking for a uniform salary schedule and better benefits. Some said they'd like to be treated as well as other teachers in the area.

"We actually put people to work. I have a lot of my students out there that have their own businesses now. They're paying taxes, they're buying houses," said teacher Frank Guida.

Some nursing students who take classes at CTC joined the picket in support of their teachers.

"Our patients were expecting us today in the hospital and we're not there. There's a severe nursing shortage and we want to learn," said nursing student Kim Spagnuolo.

They said they should be doing clinical work at local hospitals today as part of their education. Instead, they were on the picket line.

"We have tests that we're supposed to take on Friday in school that we're not going to be able to take, everybody's been studying. You know, it's unfortunate. It's not fair," said nursing student Lisa Quinn.

Both school district representatives and union representatives said they are ready and willing to sit down and talk. No negotiations are planned as of now.
