Bears Rescued from Tree
Dozens of people turned out in Archbald to get a first-hand glance to see a mama bear and her two cubs stuck in a tree.

It was around noon hour when people heard the mother black bear and her two cubs were way up in a maple tree.

People gathered round to see a pretty unusual sight for Spruce Street.

"A little scary because when the neighbor and I came out on the porch, he growled at us!" recounted Mary Dolph. "I said, 'Get back in the house sailor!'"

She then called 911. Archbald police arrived and so did wildlife conservation officer Mark Rutkowski.

"We're going to put together a game plan right now. Probably going to tranquilize her and get the cubs out, get them together and put them where it's a little safer," Rutkowski.

With the bear tranquilizer doing it's job, the mother bear eventually fell asleep.

But how do you get a snoozing 200 pound bear out of a tree? Peckville's volunteers gladly brought their ladder truck. They inched closer and closer to the mama bear, tying up the sleeping animal with a rope.

When the knot was tight enough to hold her, the bear was lowered to the ground so game commission officers could get a better look at her, even tagging her ears for identification.

After the mother bear was secured to atruck and taken away, they went back for her cubs.

One fell into a red fireman's tarp. The other was plucked from the tree by Rutkowski.

The two tranquilized cubs were taken away to be reunited with their mom.

"Well the bears were relocated to a local game lands and they were all put together so mom and her cubs will find a little quieter place to go for the afternoon," Rutkowski said.

While it's not rare that bears would show up in a neighborhood in Archbald the game commission said they were probably lured in by garbage and some bird feeders.

Experts said the bears will be just fine.
