A brand new building in Montour County is seeing its first occupants. Geisinger workers moved into the new building in downtown Danville.
Employees were unpacking some of their boxes in their new downtown office building.
"I think this is a great opportunity for us to get out and be with the community and share some of the opportunity the additional dollars can bring," said Edward Zych of Geisinger.
About 110 employees will be working out of a three-story new facility. Geisinger is relocating four departments from its nearby hospital complex to the new office building on Mill Street in Danville. Previously it had been occupied by a flower shop that was destroyed by fire.
For now the legal and contract departments have moved into the building. The public relations and marketing and innovations departments will follow. Worker Tammy Novinger said she's excited to be so close to the shops downtown. "You need something at Beiter's you just walk up the street," said Novinger.
That's just what Beiter's owner Thomas Beiter wants to hear. "It's it gives us all an opportunity to show new people our wares and hopefully we are smart enough to get them back in again," said Beiter.
Other shops and restaurants nearby are hoping to cash in on the new addition downtown.
"Being that we are just a few steps out of their doorway. If they only have 30 minutes then hopefully they'll choose us first to get in and out quickly," said Faith McNeal, BJ's Manager.
The move to Geisinger's downtown office building is expected to be completed by the first week in December.
