Documents unsealed in federal court allege a long-standing relationship with Mount Airy Casino Resort owner Louis DeNaples and reputed mob boss William D'Elia.

Some details of that relationship are in court documents.

The paperwork was filed by the government in an attempt to get a lighter sentence for reputed mobster William D'Elia who has long-been connected to the Bufalino crime family.

Federal court papers show that D'Elia gave photos and other evidence to Dauphin County prosecutors and that evidence helped those prosecutors charge long-time Dunmore businessman Louis DeNaples with lying to a state gaming control board about having ties to the mafia.

An assistant U.S. attorney is quoted in the court papers as saying: "In this case, D'Elia provided tangible evidence of his long-standing relationship with DeNaples, including photographs and other documents which corroborated his statement."

The government hopes to use the documents and photos to show that D'Elia cooperated with the investigation and deserves a lesser sentence on a conspiracy conviction.

DeNaples has always denied any relationship with D'Elia or any members of the mob.

DeNaples was charged in January, 2008 with lying to a grand jury. Those charges were dropped in April by Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico.

By phone he told Newswatch 16, "We've believed all along that there was a relationship with Mr. DeNaples and Mr. D'Elia, and wat the United States attorney's office is filing is true. I am not surprised."

There is no word if those documents and photos described in these court papers will be used against Louis DeNaples again.

Prosecutors also said D'Elia helped them in another case involving Robert Kulick of Bear Creek who was sentenced to more than three years on a federal gun charge.

William D'Elia is locked up in a federal prison in Texas.
