There are plenty of activities. Some said one of the favorites is an hour-long train ride to see nature's colors.
"From a business standpoint it's sort of the Jim Thorpe stimulus plan. We advertise a two to three hour radius of Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York," said Dan Jugos of the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce.
Advertising seem to be working. People from several states were taking in the sights.
"The fall foliage, it's a perfect time of year and it's a perfect time to come here and enjoy the colors of nature" said Dan Vavese of New Jersey.
"We were pleasantly surprised that the leaves have turned as much as they have up here" said Marlene Davenport of Maryland. Her husband is excited too. "We like the mountains. We're flat land where we live. Everything is flat and we enjoy the mountains and we did a little hiking," said Wayne Davenport.
The goal of the Fall Foliage Festival is to entertain and to boost the economy of Jim Thorpe. Some business owners said they make more money this time of year even compared to Christmas.
Judy Need owns the Everything Nice Gift Shop. "It's been a slow season this year with the economy and everything. We still get a lot of people but it's been slow, a slower season than normal," Need said.
Food is a big seller too. Andy Yurchak helps run Andy and Toni's Hot Dogs. "It's icing on the cake. You work all year long and this seems to be the one where people come out and you do well," Yurchak said.
