People who work for the ski resorts are looking forward to the winter weather.

A Carbon County resort used the sunny weather MOnday to get ready for snow.

The ski lifts at Blue Mountain Ski Area near Palmerton are being tested and ready to go. In other areas people are busy getting shops ready for skiers.

"We're excited about all the new equipment we have in; over 700 new skis from Head and 500 new snow boards from Flow," said Chuck Tackas of Blue Mountain Ski Area.

About three inches of snow fell on Blue Mountain last week, getting folks psyched and knowing that the snowy scenes are just a preview of things to come.

Officials at the ski area said if nature cooperates the slopes could be open around Thanksgiving.

"We're hoping to have the best year ever, with our new slope open, so we have 34 open instead of 33, Nightmare," said Heidi Lutz of Blue Mountain. "Nightmare is for experienced skiers."

Blue Mountain contractors are working on building a new lodge and other workers are putting together parts which will make up a terrain park in the middle of the ski resort.

"It's just a bunch of features put together, whether it be jumps, rails, anything that we can create from snow and metal that would be fun for kids to ride," said contractor Caleb Hamilton.

Officials said the key to success is making the ski area a year-round place.

"We had a great Fathers Day picnic. We've had our wine and beer festival, we've had our Rock the Fall concert, our Appreciation of Fall kickoff. We intended to do more of that. Looking more in the future we hope to open our water park at the top of the mountain in 2011," sid Jim Dailey of Blue Mountain.

Those who run Blue Mountain can't wait until all of the green turned into a blanket of snow.
