Fire investigators were back on the scene Tuesday of a deadly fire in Carbon County. At the same time, autopsies were being done on the mother and daughter who died in the fire in Weatherly. Investigators are trying to figure out if there is anything criminal about the fire.
When Cindy Eichelberger walked up to the scene of the deadly fire it brought back painful memories. She saw a state police fire marshal and agents for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms looking for evidence.
She knows her best friend in high school, Julie Young and Young's mother, Mary Hoffman died from breathing in too much smoke.
Fire ripped through their home Monday morning.
"People are friends in high school and that close we should have stayed friends for a long time and I'm sorry I lost touch with her. Now look. I'll never be able to say hello again," Eichelberger said.
Other neighbors said it's important for investigators to find out what happened.
"The whole neighborhood wants to know because everybody in the neighborhood knew Mary and Julie. They were quiet. Something like this shouldn't have happened," said neighbor Fred Peltz.
"I wouldn't want the same thing to happen to my house. If it was my family I would die trying to get them out," said neighbor Tony Krum.
Neighbors said Young's mother was confined to a wheelchair. Some cringe at what their final moments were like.
"How they suffered because I know Julie would try and get her mom out of there. I know she was trying to do something. This is too bad for something like this. It's horrible," Eichelberger added.
A state police fire marshal said they hope to have a cause of the fire but there is no word when that might happen.
