The first few customers at Station Square, Olyphant's newest restaurant, sat down for a meal Thursday. It's a beautiful sight for owner Rick Dixon, who bought the place with his wife. The restaurant used to be Molly Maguires Ale House, and sat empty before the Dixon's came along.
"We were always here with our children and when this became available we decided this would be the perfect opportunity to fulfill our dream," Dixon said.
Station Square is soon going to have a new neighbor. The Candy Bouquet is set to open in about two weeks. The custom candy basket, fudge, taffy and gift shop will be a labor of love for Olyphant native Shelly Atkinson. "We love candy and sweets. I have two girls. It's just something we've always wanted to do," Atkinson said.
Olyphant seems to be going through a business boom. A music studio just opened three weeks ago and Comfort Keepers Home Care recently opened on Lackawanna Avenue as well.
Atkinson said it's a promising time to be opening up shop. "It's been neglected somewhat, but I think there's a lot of interest now and people coming from out of the area who want to make it look nice," Atkinson added.
Which brings us to Central Park Flowers, right across the street from Station Square. A couple from New York City opened the shop in August and can't wait to see more new faces.
"We've always had a great lunch crowd and dinner crowd from Luigi's next door, but the more the merrier on this street, that's for sure, said co-owner Eloise Butovich.
