"American Idol" Season 8 contestant Scott MacIntyre attended the Phoenix audition and performed Billy Joel's "And So It Goes". He's the first blind (he sees two degrees of tunnel vision) contestant on "Idol", an accomplished academic, and he's thoughtful. He wore a "Mind the Gap" London Underground T-shirt "for Simon".

The 23-year-old Scottsdale, Ariz. pianist has a long list of achievements including graduating from   Arizona State University at 19-years-old summa cum laude. He's a Marshall scholarship recipient, Fulbright scholar and Rhodes finalist. He says his lack of vision drove him to explore the "world of sound". One more accomplishment he can add to his list: making it to Hollywood! Kara called him "courageous" and Paula said "absolutely yes"--Randy and Simon gave their approval as well, and away Scott MacIntyre went, accompanied by his brother, with his golden ticket.
