We've got a reason to visit in every season!
Summer is Hot, Hot, Hot!
So cool off at one of our area's water parks: Snö Cove and the Waterslides at Nay Aug Park. Take a dip in the lake at the Lackawanna State Park or at Merli-Sarnoski County Park or catch a ball game as the boys of summer, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the NY Yankees' Triple-A farm team take to the field on Montage Mountain. Festivals and fairs abound throughout the region and the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain and Wachovia Arena concert venues rock all summer long! Beat the heat on the Lackawanna County Coal Mine Tour where the temperature in this once-active coal mine is a cool 55 degrees! Hop aboard a restored trolley for a ride from the Electric City Trolley Museum to PNC field on Montage Mountain or take an excursion from the Steamtown National Historic Site through the Pocono and Endless Mountains.
Fall is Fabulous!
A leaf peepers dream come true. The mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania provide the perfect backdrop for a fall visit. Our peak season is usually late September through early October. Get in the spirit of the season with a visit to the Houdini Tour and Show where students of this craft work their magic all year-long with magic shows and séances that are truly spooktacular! Bring your "little pumpkins" to pick their favorite jack-o-lantern at Roba's Family Farms or Millers Orchards or take a leisurely drive along Scenic Route 6 to Mt. Airy Casino Resort or Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs for a little gaming fun. While you're here, take a walking tour of our historic downtown and hill district or take "The Office" tour, based on NBC's hit TV show fictitiously set here in Scranton.
Winter is Wonderful!
You can ski, snowboard and snow tube at one of two ski resorts, ice skate in one of our parks and indoor ice arenas or take in a Penguins pro hockey game. During the holiday season, visit the festival of trees at the Trolley Museum, the Light Spectacular in Historic Nay Aug Park and ride the Holiday Express Train at Steamtown National Historic Site. Ring in the new-year at First Night Scranton, catch a show at the Scranton Cultural Center or shop 'till you drop in Scranton's Downtown Shopping District or at one of four premier malls and outlet centers.
Spring is Spectacular!
Our year-round historic attractions are in high gear in the spring. You can take a trip 300 feet beneath the surface of the earth to tour a coal mine at the Lackawanna County Coal Mine Tour or board a trolley at the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum for a 5 mile ride to scenic Montage Mountain. Check out America's largest collection of steam locomotives at Steamtown National Historic Site and get a bird's eye view of our scenic valley at Miniature Memories for a truly different look at our world in miniature.
