Tom Clark
Chief Meteorologist Tom Clark joined the Newswatch 16 team in the fall of 1981. Tom graduated from Penn State University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. Prior to that he received an Associate Degree in science from Delaware County Community college.
As a young boy his interest in the weather began as a fascination with thunderstorms. Soon he had constructed a backyard weather station at his parent's home in Drexel Hill, near Philadelphia. Tom's house was the only one in the neighborhood with wind instruments on the roof and a raingauge out in the yard. His steadfast love of weather made a big impression on his parents, who made it possible for him to attend Penn State to begin his formal study of meteorology.
His career in broadcasting began at Penn State as a member of the Campus Weather Service, joining other students in giving on-air forecasts to local radio stations. He soon joined an enterprising classmate in building a small private forecasting business providing forecasts to larger radio stations throughout Eastern Pennsylvania: their one TV client, WNEP-TV. Soon thereafter he began his television career at WNEP, doing weather from the station's backyard. His on-air reports have been awarded the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society, and he was chosen as the most preferred television weathercaster in a poll conducted by a local newspaper.
In addition to reporting the weather, Tom maintains an active schedule making public appearances at schools and community events. He also appears on WNEP-TV's Home and Backyard show where he enjoys giving demonstrations of his hobbies, gardening and lawncare.
He currently resides in Mountaintop with his wife Noreen and daughter Kristin. Noreen is also a meteorologist on the staff at WNEP, but Tom quips that they do not have a 'stormy' marriage. And visitors to his home are sure to notice the wind instruments up on the roof and the rain gauge out in the yard. Kristen is a meteorologist at a television station in Minnesota.
